Very enjoyable tours around the whole of Manhattan. In hindsight, if you plan well you really get good use out of the hop on hop off aspect, great for going where you want to go and also just to sit and enjoy the sights and take lots of photos. My only niggle was finding the bust stops, its a little hard with all the signage everywhere in NY, they can be missed.

The convenience of being able to hop on and hop off the bus was a great benefit. We saw a lot more of New York than expected and the onboard commentary was a great help

It was great and I loved seeing the statue of liberty but didn't get off the ferry because we would have missed the last bus so start early. Watch out for the people claiming they have tickets for the ferry. Some people people paid them and couldn't get on tip your tour guide they will help

    1 2 3 4 5

Great times, but please point out that the ferry leaves in a different location than the regular ferry! That was a little confusing, but it was great to see the Statue up close without having to go to Ellis Island. The Hop On tour provides many options! Great start to a week in NYC!

    1 2 3 4 5

It was incredible. Took my adult daughter and we were able to see NYC from tip to tip. We bought the 2 day pass with an included ferry trip to the Statue of Liberty. The line to get back on the the ferry from The Statue was so long we decided to remain on the boat. The view of the statue was still incredulous, as was the view of the city and it was a really nice boat ride. Our pass included a night bus ride--beautiful--and a tour of Brooklyn. I would recommend this company and tour to everyone.

Great tour of New York, the tour guides are really know their stuff but do need to stop calling the British the English. But they were great, liberty ferry tour was great just make sure you pick up your ticket for the ferry from the staff by the bus stop before you try to board the ferry.

Very good.. Organized and on time tour busses and plenty of people on the way around New York helping direct you.

  • Michelle M / Australia

    1 2 3 4 5

This was fantastic. With the added ferry ticket you really get to see all the New York sites. Also with additional Harlem tour and Brooklyn tours all included in 48 hour pass we really knew our way around New York after the first 2 days of being there. Well worth it and very informative.

  • traveller

    1 2 3 4 5

You can't visit NYC without doing this! All the driver guides were great, telling us so many interesting things we wouldn't have learned on our own. The convenience was excellent. When rain caused backups of lines the next day, they very quickly recruited more buses to minimize the wait. The night tour should NOT be missed!

  • Paula C L

    1 2 3 4 5

The hop on, hop off tour was a good deal. We loved the uptown and, downtown loop tours and foand found the guides very knowledgeable. We learned a lot. We liked being able to catch a bus almost anywhere after enjoying a site or eating out somewhere.

    1 2 3 4 5

This tour is worth the pay. We stayed in The Jewel facing Rockefeller Center which is just a few blocks away from the Visitor Information Center and a block away from the Rockefeller stop. Uptown tour guide, Emmanuel, is the most entertaining, he is also a brother mason of my husband, it's really nice to meet a Brother. Other tour guides are relatively nice. Unfortunately, it rained on the first day of our tour, we had no chance to go down to some scenic spots. Luckily, it was sunny the following day, and we had a good time in the Statue of Liberty. Highly recommended tour.

  • Joseph M

    1 2 3 4 5

We found the Guides very informative and as we had a limited time in New York it was the best way to learn about the different areas of such a big city. Thankyou very much for a wonderful experience and we would recommend it. From Sydney, Australia.

    1 2 3 4 5

Even though we had really bad weather one day we still managed to do the hop on and hop off tours which gave us an insight to NY and where we wanted to explore in more depth. The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island Ferry ticket made this a great way to see these two fabulous attractions. Great...

    1 2 3 4 5

This was the best value money I spent all holiday. The tours covered all areas of New York and it was great being able to hop off and on at the sites you wanted to visit. I would strongly recommend a visit to Ellis Island as this was more interesting than statue of liberty. Fantastic two days seeing sights and would not have covered as much if it hadnt been on the buses. Buses came every 10 - 15 mins at all stops. Excellent package.

An excellent and very convenient way of getting to know your way around New York; informative, too!

  • Robert S

    1 2 3 4 5

A great way to get around and see a lot of New York in a short space of time, especially if it is your first visit. The hop on hop off idea is good as you can stop and see what you want to see knowing you can catch another bus to continue the trip. The tour guides are a little bit hit and miss, we had two that were very knowledgeable and entertaining, while a couple left a lot to be desired. But overall the tour is well worth the money.

  • Deidre B

    1 2 3 4 5

Good value, informative commentary, inclusion of Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island made our day.Would do it again should we return to New York. Thanks.

    1 2 3 4 5

the equipment, guides, and detail of the city were perfect. however, @ the end, someone threw a red baloon @ the bus just up from the Plaza area. the woman in fron of me was hit, & I got splashed on the left back & left arm. my large sun hat protected my head. later my arm & back started to itch so i took a shower & made a report to security @ the westin ts. you probably need to institute fines for people that attack your vehicles.

Great way to get around NY for this first time granny visitor and granddaughter. Wish we'd had more time to make more stops ... guides very informative however one had to much personal chatter.

  • Nancy W

    1 2 3 4 5

The tour was pretty good overall. Our first couple guides were on their game with historical information, etc. One guy seemed a bit lazy about it. I've done these hop-on hop-off tours in MANY cities and I really enjoy them for my first day somewhere to get familar with the city, see the things quickly that I kinda want to see and figure out the ones that I want to spend more time at. That was awesome when I was traveling alone or with another adult. This time I had my kids - 18,9 and 6 months, in NYC, in August. That was a mistake. It was too hot on top for the baby and the sun put my 9 yr old into a nap up there. The downstairs part is not air-conditioned, so it was hardly tolerable for the baby. The 18 year old enjoyed it, but the others were not a good idea. We totally didn't take advantage of all of the benefits that I normally would have. So- notes: Not a great idea with children or babies and beware of the heat/sun. It can get miserable. When I'm back to traveling as an adult, I'll be doing these again.

    1 2 3 4 5

Although the tours were excellent I thought booking on line would save any queuing for tickets. However we still had to stand in line to actually obtain tickets to show on each bus trip.Having said this the prices were much cheaper booking in advance.

    1 2 3 4 5

The tour bus and tour guides were fantastic! But the ticket office is a mess. It is very unorganized. While the website says you can use the verification from your phone, when you get there they insist on needing a paper copy.

    1 2 3 4 5

We really enjoyed our open topped tour of New York and the tour guides were all very good with interesting information. It was nice to listen to New Yorkers who were passionate about their city. Our only problem was that there were long waits for the hop ons. You also need to make more regular checks in clearing up litter left on the buses.

hop-on-hop-off is very worthwhile to get an understanding of what is available to do and see.loved the Statue of Liberty cruise.

  • Lesley2107

    1 2 3 4 5

We were glad to have had these tickets. We used them for the downtown and night loops. The first bus we boarded earplugs had to be used to hear the commentary and this was very poor. The sound quality was appalling. Not all buses require these and all the other buses that we went on we did not need them. The visit to Liberty and Ellis Island is highly recommended as this turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip to New York.

  • garry

    1 2 3 4 5

Overall tour was great particularly the night tour. Full credit to the tour guide of night tour. We booked two days hop on hop off tour with Liberty island ferry. However I feel it was too much to do in two days. There are four loops on hop on tour and the New York traffic makes it almost impossible to do all four loops in 2 days .

  • Faye

    1 2 3 4 5

Bus ticket was ideal but did get caught up in traffic so took quite a while to do the downtown trip. The uptown was boring , not worth the time it takes.Ellis Island was great and the close views of the Statue of Liberty were fabulous. Ferry was very crowded and ques were long but only way to do that tour so don't miss it.

  • Elisa H

    1 2 3 4 5

This is definitely the best way to see New york if you're a first timer. We did the whole uptown tour so we were familiar with where everything was and the next day hopped on and hopped off where we wanted. The Brooklyn trip was a bit long for what it was, and unfortunately the tour guides mic was faulty

    1 2 3 4 5

For the Hop-on-hop-off part, I can accept the fact that we need to exchange the tickets at a specific place, but for the the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island Ferry part, I don't know why they cannot just exchange the actual tickets right when we exchange the ticket for the hop on hop off. With the voucher, we need to exchange for some kind of confirmationticketvoucher for the Statue, then when we reach the Battery Park, we need to exchange for the actual ticket

  • Ian S / Australia

    1 2 3 4 5

Did the Downtown and Uptown Loops, wanted to do Brooklyn Loop but ran out of time. Would be good if ticket wasnt time limited. Uptown loop was particularly good. Some confusion with stops in Midtown didnt stop where some signs said it should. Long lines for Statue of LibertyEllis Island cruise, but very good- Ellis Island was very interesting, make sure you use the audio tour.

  • Justin G / United Kingdom

    1 2 3 4 5

Not enough buses with covers on top deck as weather was poor

  • Gary L / United Kingdom

    1 2 3 4 5

Worth the money as we got to see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island too and use the buses to get around the city at our own leisure. One criticism was that if we wanted to head back we could only jump on at the nearest pickup point which meant having to continue on the route as part of the tour again instead of being able to head straight back. It would be nice to have a different route that the bus does on the way back that enables people to jump on without having to have the entire tour again. Very enjoyable though and saves money on cab rides.

  • Emmaly F

    1 2 3 4 5

The quality of the experience is totally dependent on the person doing the narration. The first bus we boarded, I found it impossible to understand what the guide was saying, so needless to say, I was not impressed with that leg of my trip. The next two buses had excellent narrators who were easily understood, so that part of the tour was quite enjoyable. The ferry ride was good, but the night tour was really disappointing! Since we were in the Christmas season, we thought that we would see some holiday lights and decorations. That was not the case. When we asked about that, the guide told us that we would have been better served to stay downtown and walk around on our own. Some good points, some not so good.

  • Nee-Nee

    1 2 3 4 5

The tour guides were very knowledgable, but the tour buses stopped running too early. The ferry for the Statue of Liberty stopped running at 3:30. I felt that was too early in the afternoon to stop running the ferry.

  • Edgardo A

    1 2 3 4 5

Hop On Hop Off very disorganized, got a number of conflicting directions,.Liberty Ferry ticket also not well organized, once we got on the ferry the tour of the Statue of Liberty was lovely.

  • Nancy P

    1 2 3 4 5

Getting the tickets was the biggest hassle for us. Lots of misinformation from various employees. Our first tour guide was unclear to understand, full of himself, sarcastic, and asked for a tip way too often. The next two guides were friendly, helpful and easy to understand. We enjoyed the tour.

  • G. Jeffrey W

    1 2 3 4 5

Overall, we were pleased with the tour. Loved the guides that added personal history. There were several issues we had that could be simply fixed. 1. Signs for trolley stops2. Ear phone quality could be improved or suggest on your sight the patrons could bring personal earphones.

  • George M

    1 2 3 4 5

the actual tour was good and I would do it again. However a few glitches- bus frequency was irregular and sporadic bus stops were not always easy to find i.e. poorly marked and finally ALL the buses should have either air conditioning or windows that open.

  • David R

    1 2 3 4 5

Although a good idea in most cities this turned out to be less successful in New York. Stuck in endless traffic jams in stifling heat is not a good experience. It takes so long to get from point to point that time is wasted sitting in traffic and consequently we saw less than we wanted. Knowing this in any future New York trips I would decide what I wanted to see and take taxi's, which are cheap enough and able to negotiate traffic more efficiently. In addition to this some of the guides seamed disinterested and merely going through the motions.

    1 2 3 4 5

Enjoyed the ferry and statue. The hope on moved so slowly in the high traffic of NYC that I'm not sure it was our best shot. We stopped to see the 9/11 memorial and lost the ability to ride the last shuttle that was non stop.

  • Chaitali S

    1 2 3 4 5

Our trip on the Hop-on Hop-off tour started off great and we had a great time. The guides were good. But what we felt was that if we had recorded audio instead of a person, it would have been better. It was difficult to keep pace with what they were saying and also see the sights. However, all in all, it was a good experience.

  • chowming t

    1 2 3 4 5

this was good, got to see all the sights, very handy if your unable to get a round easy.

  • Brendan D / Australia

    1 2 3 4 5

this is a great way to see New York if you dont have much time as it covers all the bases and the statue of liberty is well worth a visit

  • Patricia H

    1 2 3 4 5

The driver did not take the route posted and when it started pouring rain, the tour guide tried to encourage us to get off the bus rather than phone/coordinate another bus to move us onto.

  • Grace B

    1 2 3 4 5

Really disappointed with the tour. Our first day we had a lovely guide who helped us and explained a lot. The second day we had a nasty woman who was really unpleasant to listen too. Alongside that we never got to do the ferry as we arrived at 3.30 and no one had mentioned the last trip was at 3?? What a waste of money.

I was grateful for the 2-day tour and kind tour guide, but the bus was freezing cold. I couldn't enjoy my tour because my face, fingers and toes were numb. The bus didn't warm up until the end of the tour. By then, I needed to return to my hotel for a hot shower.

I was sold the VIP package when I was picking up the tickets I had bought online. This was a big waste of money. The original package was a good value, but the VIP was not what I was led to believe. Poor value.

Everything was great UNTIL we got close to the Statue if Liberty. We had "printed slips" for the ferry. The bus turned before we made it to the drop off location and told this bus is done and we had to get off. We were given very "vague" directions to find the employees who had out actual tickets to the ferry. We couldn't find them and walked to the ferry boarding and ticket sales and were again given poor directions to find the employees - just hanging out on a street with some grassy area 3 employees were.By this time we were sure we'd missed the last ferry to Statue of Liberty ferry and very hot and tired. Thankfully we found out we had till 5:00 (it was just after 3:30). It was just exhausting and very disappointing.

It is always useful to explore a new city by these tours, but this particular tour operator was a disappointment. The busses are old and shaky, the guides were of very mixed quality, and the "hop-on function" unreliable! We had prebooked (and paid) 4 tours over 2 days, but only took 3 of them. The worst exerience was that two busses on the up-town tour (over 45 mins) did not stop on Central Park 5th Av. We left the down-town tour from a guide whose English might have indicated she came over Ellis Island the week before. The good thing was the guide at the Brooklyn tour who extended our ticket by one day because he could only offer roof-less outside seats on very cold, wet and windy day.

not a good investment. We purchased 2-day tichets and time was a factor. buses start running at nine and stop at five.We could have saved money taking taxis and walking. It was very hot in august, we took several diff. buses and none of the air-conditioning worked.

Lied to by Viator, paid for online hop on hop off New York. Then found out we had to line up for tickets at Gray Line 45 minutes then another 50 minute wait for Bus 3 passed by full. Return even worse an hour and 10 minutes wait in line for bus that took us directly back to turnaround point as the 6pm cut off passed. Then the driver who could not speak English wanted a gratuity, she must have been joking. Will never book on line again, and this is a Trip Advisor Company. Do not use them for anything they are bogus.

The bus is the perfect way to see the things on your list. HOWEVER, our purchase said that we could use the e receipt to begin at any bus stop. None of the Gray Line representatives recognized my e receipt. I spent a huge amount of time walking to places they said would give me the tickets I needed while being chastised by Gray Line reps for buying passes online and not from them on the street. Ultimately I had to go to the central office to get printed passes. Seems like an old fashioned, paper-wasting system. I spent a half day trying to get what I needed to use the bus and boat. I won't purchase online if I do the bus again.
